Scientists probe why intense training can disrupt Women's periods

NCT ID NCT05967819

Summary

This study aims to understand how increasing exercise or mental stress—or both together—affects menstrual cycles and reproductive hormones in female runners and cyclists. Researchers will monitor 54 active women for about three months, tracking their cycles, stress, and activity while some groups increase training or take stressful cognitive tests. The goal is to learn how different types of stress contribute to menstrual irregularities, which could inform better health guidance for active women.
