Strength training trial aims to boost mobility for schizophrenia patients

NCT ID NCT07183969

Summary

This study tested whether a 16-week leg strength training program could improve physical function and quality of life for people with chronic schizophrenia who also have sarcopenia, a condition of age-related muscle loss. Researchers worked with 78 participants in Taiwan, comparing those who did the exercises to those who received usual care. The goal was to develop a non-drug approach to help maintain independence and slow muscle decline in long-term psychiatric care.
