Can a few extra exercises in cardiac rehab keep older adults steady on their feet?
NCT ID NCT07500077
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study looks at whether adding strength and balance exercises to standard cardiac rehab classes can improve functional fitness in older adults (aged 50+). About 53 participants will be split into two groups: one doing usual aerobic-based rehab, and the other adding 20 minutes of strength and balance moves per session. After 12 weeks, researchers will measure changes in fitness, balance confidence, and fear of falling, and also interview participants and instructors about their experience.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
strength and balance exercises added to traditional aerobic-based cardiac rehabilitation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple way to improve functional fitness and reduce fall risk in older adults attending cardiac rehab.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 53 participants, so results may not apply widely. The added exercises might not provide significant benefits over standard care.
