New Immune-Targeting drug tested in global fight against advanced stomach cancer

Summary

This study is testing whether adding the drug zolbetuximab to standard chemotherapy works better than chemotherapy alone for adults with advanced stomach or GEJ (where the food pipe meets the stomach) cancer that has spread and cannot be removed by surgery. The drug is designed to attach to a specific protein found on many of these cancer cells, which may help the body's immune system attack the tumor. About 500 participants worldwide will be randomly assigned to receive either the real drug or a placebo (inactive substance) along with their chemotherapy, and neither they nor their doctors will know which one they are getting.
