New steroid test may spot hidden high blood pressure cause without risky drug changes

NCT ID NCT06941116

First seen Jan 24, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tests a new steroid-based blood test to see if it can more accurately identify Primary Aldosteronism (a common, curable cause of high blood pressure) in people who continue taking their usual blood pressure medications. About 406 adults with high blood pressure will have their blood tested twice: once while staying on their meds and once after a washout period. If successful, this approach could simplify screening and reduce the need for risky medication changes.
