Stem cell shot aims to stop dialysis access from clogging

NCT ID NCT07452822

Summary

This study is testing whether an injection of stem cells from umbilical cords can prevent a common and serious problem for people on dialysis: the narrowing and failure of their surgically created access point (called an arteriovenous fistula). The trial will first find a safe dose and then see if the treatment helps keep the fistula open and working longer in 54 patients with advanced diabetic kidney disease. The goal is to reduce the need for repeat surgeries to fix or replace clogged access sites.
