Could donor stem cells tame devastating autoimmune attacks?

NCT ID NCT07595965

First seen May 19, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-stage trial tests whether stem cells from a healthy relative can be safely given to people experiencing a severe relapse of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), a rare autoimmune disease that attacks the optic nerves and spinal cord. Six adults with a specific antibody type will receive the cells and be monitored for side effects and any improvement in disability and quality of life. The goal is to see if this approach is safe enough to study further for controlling severe disease flares.
