Stem cell shots tested to tame rare muscle disease

NCT ID NCT07160205

Summary

This study is testing whether stem cells from umbilical cord lining can help adults with dermatomyositis or polymyositis, two rare autoimmune diseases that cause muscle weakness and skin rashes. Over 25 months, 40 participants will receive three infusions of either the stem cell treatment or a placebo saline solution to see if it safely improves symptoms and allows them to reduce their steroid medication. Researchers will compare the two groups to measure changes in muscle strength, skin condition, and overall disease activity.
