Stem cell trial for failing kidney transplants halted after safety issues

NCT ID NCT07005687

Summary

This study tested whether a patient's own bone marrow stem cells could help control chronic rejection in kidney transplant patients. It involved a very small group of patients who received the stem cell infusion after their standard anti-rejection treatment. The trial was stopped early because the rejection did not improve in any patient, and serious safety concerns arose in one case.
