Could umbilical cord stem cells help repair damaged livers?

NCT ID NCT07413549

First seen Feb 23, 2026 · Last updated Apr 26, 2026 · Updated 7 times

Summary

This study tests whether injecting stem cells from donated umbilical cords can safely improve liver function in people with advanced liver scarring (cirrhosis) caused by hepatitis B. About 76 adults aged 18-75 will receive either stem cells or a placebo. The goal is to see if the treatment is safe and can reduce liver damage, potentially delaying the need for a transplant.
