Doctors test Child's own stem cells as potential new treatment for autism

NCT ID NCT01740869

Summary

This study tested whether injecting a child's own bone marrow stem cells into the spinal fluid could improve social skills and behavior in children with autism. Thirty children aged 5 to 15 received the treatment and were monitored for six months. Researchers used standard autism rating scales to see if the stem cells led to meaningful improvements.
