Stem cell infusion trial offers hope for critically ill lung patients

NCT ID NCT03818854

Summary

This study tested whether a single infusion of donor stem cells could help patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), a life-threatening lung condition. Researchers gave 120 critically ill patients either the stem cell treatment or a placebo solution to see if it improved their breathing and recovery. The main goal was to measure changes in lung function and see if patients could spend fewer days on a ventilator.
