Scientists hunt clues to prevent dangerous transplant side effect
NCT ID NCT01520623
Summary
This study aimed to understand if a part of the immune system called the 'complement system' is linked to a serious gut complication that can happen after a stem cell transplant. Researchers followed 70 adults who received a transplant for blood cancer, taking regular blood samples to measure immune activity. The goal was to see if high complement activity predicts who gets the gut complication, which could help develop future preventive treatments.
