Early test: can umbilical cord stem cells help scarred lungs?
NCT ID NCT05468502
Summary
This small, early-stage study tested whether an injection of stem cells taken from human umbilical cords is safe and tolerable for people with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a serious lung-scarring disease. The main goal was to find a safe dose by carefully monitoring 17 participants for any side effects over several weeks. Researchers also took initial measurements to see if the treatment might help improve breathing, cough, or walking ability, but determining real effectiveness would require much larger future studies.
