New study tests if cholesterol drugs raise blood sugar

NCT ID NCT07378293

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This early-stage study will give 100 healthy volunteers one of three statins (atorvastatin, rosuvastatin, or simvastatin) for two days to see how their blood sugar, insulin, and C-peptide levels change. The goal is to understand if these cholesterol-lowering drugs can temporarily raise blood sugar, which may help explain diabetes risks. No treatment is given—only observation and measurement.
