Diabetes drug shows promise for spinal cord injury in early trial

NCT ID NCT05426681

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This early study tests whether a common diabetes medicine, glyburide, can safely protect the spinal cord from further damage after a traumatic injury. Researchers will give the drug to 12 people with acute spinal cord injuries to see if it's feasible and safe, and to check for early signs of nerve recovery. The goal is to reduce long-term disability, but this is a small pilot study, not a cure.
