Blood test may help solve early puberty puzzle in girls
NCT ID NCT07359092
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 143 girls to see if two natural chemicals in the blood, spexin and phoenixin-20, can help doctors tell the difference between true central precocious puberty and a harmless condition called premature thelarche. Researchers measured these chemicals in girls with early breast development and in healthy controls. The goal is to find a simple blood test that could guide diagnosis and avoid unnecessary treatments.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this research could lead to a simple blood test to help doctors tell the difference between central precocious puberty and harmless early breast development.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed observational study, not a treatment trial. The findings need to be confirmed in larger, more diverse groups before any diagnostic test becomes available.
