New scanner could help surgeons remove all cancer in one go
NCT ID NCT06676943
First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 12, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tested a new type of PET-CT scanner that can quickly check if cancer has been completely removed during surgery. 57 people with prostate or head and neck cancer took part. The scanner was used on the removed tissue to see if any cancer cells were left at the edges, and the results were compared to standard lab tests. The goal is to give surgeons real-time feedback so they can remove all cancer the first time, reducing the need for extra treatments.
