NCT ID NCT07173634

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a speaking valve (a one-way valve that lets air in but not out) is better than the standard capping method (closing the tube opening) for safely removing tracheostomy tubes in 280 adults with prolonged disorders of consciousness. Participants must be stable off a ventilator and meet breathing and infection criteria. The goal is to improve the success rate and speed of tube removal, potentially reducing hospital stays and aiding recovery.
