New drug aims to clean dangerous iron from organs
NCT ID NCT05693909
Summary
This trial is testing a new drug called SP-420 to see if it can safely remove excess iron from the liver in adults with certain blood disorders. People with transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia or low-risk myelodysplastic syndrome often need regular blood transfusions, which can cause a harmful buildup of iron in their organs. The study will measure how well SP-420 cleans the liver and find the right dose, with participants taking the medication three times a week and having regular MRI scans to check their iron levels.
