Can a tropical tea shrink blood cancers?
NCT ID NCT07771803
First seen Aug 18, 2026 · Last updated Aug 18, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether drinking tea made from soursop leaves can reduce the number of cancer cells in people with relapsed or refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or multiple myeloma (MM) — blood cancers that have not responded to standard treatments. About 20 participants will drink increasing amounts of soursop tea over 21 days. The study will check for a drop in leukemia or myeloma markers and monitor for any side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Soursop tea (dried leaves of Annona muricata)
- What this could lead to
- If soursop tea reduces cancer cells, it could offer a gentle, plant-based option for patients with AML or multiple myeloma who have run out of standard treatments.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very early, small pilot study. It may not show a clear benefit, and the tea could cause side effects. Results will need confirmation in larger trials.
