Summary
This study tested whether sodium bicarbonate (a common substance) can safely treat acidosis—a dangerous buildup of acid in the blood—in women whose labor is blocked. About 472 women in Uganda received either the drug or a placebo. The goal was to find a safe, effective dose to improve outcomes for both mother and baby.
