Blood-Derived membrane may replace collagen in dental implant prep

NCT ID NCT07281053

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tested whether a special membrane made from a patient's own blood (extended platelet-rich fibrin, or e-PRF) works as well as standard collagen membranes for preserving the jawbone after a tooth is pulled. Fifty-five adults who needed a tooth extraction and later a dental implant took part. The goal was to see if the e-PRF membrane could prevent bone shrinkage just as effectively as the collagen membrane, potentially offering a natural and cheaper alternative.
