First seen May 11, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study observes how hospitals around the world treat severe gallbladder inflammation caused by gallstones. It will follow 1,500 patients to see which treatment—surgery, drainage, or antibiotics alone—leads to better recovery and survival over 90 days. No treatments are assigned; doctors choose based on usual care. The goal is to help guide future decisions for patients who are older, have other health issues, or are very ill.
