New program aims to shield kids from secondhand smoke and maltreatment

Summary

This study is testing a combined program designed to help families create smoke-free homes while also improving parenting skills. It involves about 268 mothers who are involved with child protective services and have young children. Researchers will compare this new combined program to a standard parenting program to see if it's better at reducing children's exposure to secondhand smoke at home.
