Magnet-Activated balloon offers safer fetal surgery for babies with breathing defect
NCT ID NCT04931212
Summary
This study tested a new, smarter balloon device for a fetal surgery called FETO, which is used to help babies with a severe birth defect called congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). The new 'Smart-TO' balloon is designed to be deflated using an MRI machine's magnetic field, making the procedure safer and easier than the current method. The goal was to see if this new device works safely to help these babies' lungs grow before they are born.
