NCT ID NCT07200713
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a therapy called Sensory Motor Arousal Regulation Treatment (SMART) works better than standard care for youth aged 7-17 who have experienced trauma and struggle with self-regulation. The trial will involve 120 participants randomly assigned to SMART or usual treatment, with follow-ups at 6 and 12 months. Researchers will measure improvements in emotional control, trauma symptoms, and daily functioning, and explore which youth benefit most.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Sensory motor arousal regulation treatment (SMART) - a psychological therapy using a special room and techniques
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a more effective therapy option for youth struggling with self-regulation after trauma, improving emotional control and daily functioning.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively small early-stage trial (120 participants) comparing SMART to usual treatment, so results may not apply broadly. The therapy is psychological, not a drug, so effects may vary and benefits might not be dramatic.
