Tiny implant zaps tongue nerves to keep sleep apnea patients breathing

NCT ID NCT05592002

Summary

This study is testing a small, battery-free implant called the Genio System for people with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea who have a specific throat collapse pattern and cannot use standard breathing machines. The device is placed under the chin and sends gentle pulses to the nerves that control the tongue to keep the airway open during sleep. Researchers are measuring if it safely and effectively reduces breathing pauses and improves oxygen levels over 12 months.
