Could some breast cancer patients avoid surgery altogether?

NCT ID NCT04578106

Summary

This study explored whether women with a specific type of early-stage, HER2-positive breast cancer could safely skip surgery and lymph node removal. To qualify, patients first needed to have no detectable cancer left after completing a standard course of targeted drug therapy. The goal was to see if avoiding surgery in these carefully selected patients could maintain good cancer control while improving quality of life.
