Could one antibiotic dose be enough? new study aims to reduce overuse in jaw surgery

NCT ID NCT05852158

First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a single dose of antibiotics before jaw surgery works just as well as multiple doses over 24 hours to prevent infections. About 400 people having jaw surgery will be randomly assigned to one of two groups. The goal is to see if the extra doses are needed, which could help reduce antibiotic resistance and side effects.
