Collarbone surgery showdown: which technique wins?

NCT ID NCT07399834

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two surgical methods to repair a dislocated acromioclavicular (AC) joint, where the collarbone meets the shoulder. Researchers will randomly assign 74 patients aged 18-45 with acute, severe injuries to receive either a single-tunnel or double-tunnel stabilization procedure. The goal is to see which technique leads to better joint function and healing, as measured by the ACJI score and X-ray findings.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Coracoclavicular stabilization surgery (single tunnel or double tunnel technique)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show which surgical method is better for fixing a dislocated collarbone, leading to improved recovery and fewer repeat injuries.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 74 participants. Results may not apply to all patients, and surgery always carries risks like infection or implant failure.
