Statins for stronger smiles: gel may boost dental implant success
NCT ID NCT07194447
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether applying a gel containing simvastatin (a cholesterol drug) around new dental implants helps them heal stronger and reduces bone loss. Forty-two adults received implants and were randomly given either the simvastatin gel or a placebo gel. Implant stability was measured at 8 and 16 weeks, and bone levels were checked with a 3D X-ray. The goal was to see if the gel improves how the implant fuses with the jawbone.
