Streamlining kidney stone surgery: skipping a step may save time and lower infection risk
NCT ID NCT06750913
First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 21, 2026 · Updated 20 times
Summary
This study looked at whether a common step in kidney stone surgery—placing a tube from the bladder into the ureter—can be safely skipped. 140 adults with large kidney stones (over 2 cm) were randomly assigned to receive the standard surgery with the tube or a modified version without it. The goal was to see if skipping the tube could shorten surgery time and reduce infection risk while still effectively removing stones.
