Diabetes breakthrough: intensive insulin may let patients ditch multiple drugs
NCT ID NCT03958591
First seen May 17, 2026 ยท Last updated May 17, 2026
Summary
This study tested a new treatment plan for people with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes. Instead of adding more drugs over time, patients first received intensive insulin therapy, then switched to a simpler combination of two pills (vildagliptin and metformin). The goal was to see if this approach could help more patients reduce their daily medications while still controlling blood sugar. 274 adults in China took part, and the study looked at how many could successfully simplify their treatment.
