Ancient herb put to modern test for protecting livers from drug damage

NCT ID NCT05144217

Summary

This study tested whether higher or more frequent doses of silymarin, an extract from milk thistle, could better protect the liver in people with drug-induced liver injury. Researchers compared different silymarin doses to a placebo over 35 days in 19 participants. The main goal was to see if these higher doses could more effectively lower elevated liver enzymes, which are markers of liver stress.
