Deep sighs during heart surgery may protect lungs, new trial tests

Summary
This study tests whether adding occasional deep sighs to standard breathing machine settings can reduce serious lung complications in the week after heart surgery. About 686 adults having planned heart surgery will be randomly assigned to either the sigh strategy or usual care. The goal is to see if sighs help prevent issues like pneumonia or the need for extra breathing support.
