First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested whether giving sickle cell patients azathioprine and hydroxyurea for three months before a stem cell transplant from a matched sibling donor could lower the risk of graft failure. Twenty adults aged 16 to 60 took part. The goal was to improve disease-free survival and allow patients to stop taking the immune-suppressing drug sirolimus one year after transplant.
