Can a standard treatment sharpen the mind? researchers probe Transfusion's brain benefits

NCT ID NCT07168447

Summary

This study aims to understand if regular exchange blood transfusions, a standard treatment, can improve thinking speed and brain function in adults with severe sickle cell disease. Researchers will remotely measure cognitive skills like memory and processing speed in 85 participants at three points in their transfusion cycle. The goal is to gather evidence on how this treatment affects the brain and to find reliable markers for future research, not to test a new therapy.
