Study challenges 7-Day antibiotic rule for newborns

NCT ID NCT05329701

Summary

This study tested if a shorter, personalized course of antibiotics is as safe as the standard 7-day treatment for full-term newborns with signs of a possible early infection but negative blood cultures. Researchers compared stopping antibiotics early based on the baby's symptoms and a blood marker (CRP) to the standard week-long treatment. The goal was to safely reduce unnecessary antibiotic use in newborns.
