One day of antibiotics may be enough after bone nail surgery
NCT ID NCT07554079
First seen May 20, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looked at whether a one-day course of antibiotics works as well as a three-day course to prevent infections after surgery for broken thigh or shin bones. Fifty-six adults who had a metal rod placed inside the bone were randomly assigned to receive antibiotics for either one day or three days. The goal was to see if the shorter course could prevent infections just as well, which could reduce antibiotic side effects and resistance.
