Can a common water pill predict kidney failure in ICU patients?

NCT ID NCT05939245

Summary

This study tested if giving a diuretic (water pill) called furosemide early to sepsis patients in the ICU could help predict and manage a dangerous kidney injury. Researchers compared the drug to a placebo in 48 patients and measured a specific kidney protein (pNGAL) to see if it was a useful sign of kidney problems. The main goal was to gather knowledge to improve future care, not to provide a direct cure.
