Scientists find new clue in blood to predict who survives sepsis

NCT ID NCT07356739

Summary

This study looked at whether a protein in the blood called Phoenixin-14 could help doctors predict which patients with severe sepsis are most at risk of dying. Researchers measured this protein in 77 adults with septic shock in the intensive care unit. They found that patients with lower levels of Phoenixin-14 were more likely to die in the hospital, suggesting it could be a useful warning sign.
