Scalp sensitivity mystery: scientists dig into genes for answers
NCT ID NCT07156422
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 36 times
Summary
This study looks at why some women have a sensitive scalp—a condition that causes tingling, burning, or itching without any visible skin disease. Researchers will take small scalp biopsies from 40 women (20 with sensitive scalp and 20 without) to compare gene activity and skin structure. The goal is to uncover the biological roots of the condition, which could lead to better understanding and future treatments.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could reveal the biological causes of sensitive scalp, pointing toward future treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 40 women. It aims to understand the condition, not test a treatment, so direct benefits are unlikely.
As listed by the trial registrant
The condition terms exactly as the trial's registrant entered them.
