Digital tool may replace tutors for teaching lung ultrasound to medical students
NCT ID NCT07679698
First seen Jul 01, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether medical students can learn to recognize lung conditions on ultrasound just as well using a self-guided digital tool (MEDQUIZ) as with a tutor. About 385 third-year students at the University of Turin will be randomly assigned to either self-directed or tutor-guided learning. Their ability to identify normal and abnormal lung findings will be compared before and after training.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Self-Directed Learning (MEDQUIZ digital tool)
- What this could lead to
- If self-directed learning proves equivalent to tutor guidance, it could allow more students to learn ultrasound skills without needing as many instructors.
- What could go wrong
- This is a single-center study with third-year medical students, so results may not apply to other learners or settings. The digital tool may not suit all learning styles.
