Can a blood vessel drug ease Raynaud's in scleroderma?

NCT ID NCT02260557

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This Phase 2 trial tested whether selexipag, a drug that opens blood vessels, can reduce the number of Raynaud's attacks in adults with systemic sclerosis. 74 participants took either selexipag or a placebo twice daily. The main goal was to see if the drug lowered weekly attack frequency.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

selexipag

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new treatment to reduce the number of Raynaud's attacks in people with systemic sclerosis.

What could go wrong

This is an early Phase 2 trial with only 74 people, so results may not be conclusive. The drug may not reduce attacks more than placebo, and side effects are possible.
