Calm drug could keep critically ill patients off breathing tubes

NCT ID NCT06259565

Summary

This large international trial is testing if a calming drug called dexmedetomidine can help critically ill adults who are struggling with a non-invasive breathing mask. The goal is to see if the drug improves tolerance of the mask, reducing the need for patients to be put on an invasive breathing machine with a tube. The study will enroll 846 adults in intensive care who are agitated or intolerant of their breathing mask support.
