New sedation method may reduce breathing risks during heart procedure in elderly

NCT ID NCT07532733

First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated May 31, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study tests whether a sedative called dexmedetomidine causes fewer breathing problems than the standard drug combination (propofol and remifentanil) during a minimally invasive heart valve replacement (TAVI) in patients aged 60 and older. Researchers will monitor oxygen levels, breathing rate, and airway function during the procedure. The goal is to find a safer sedation option for elderly patients with multiple health conditions.
