Summary

This study aimed to understand the biological basis of schizophrenia by seeing how the illness itself affects the brain, separate from the effects of medication. Researchers temporarily stopped antipsychotic drugs for 648 participants with schizophrenia in a closely monitored hospital setting. They used brain scans and psychological tests to compare brain function when participants were on medication versus when they were not.
