Vaccine tested to stop parasite reinfection in kids

NCT ID NCT00870649

Summary

This study tested whether a new vaccine, called Bilhvax, could help prevent children from getting sick again with urinary schistosomiasis, a parasitic infection. The trial involved 250 infected children aged 6-9 in Senegal. All children received the standard drug treatment (praziquantel), and then half received the vaccine while the other half received a placebo, to see if the vaccine delayed the return of the infection over three years.
