Shoulder blade workouts may boost tennis elbow recovery

NCT ID NCT07331337

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether adding scapular (shoulder blade) strengthening exercises to standard physical therapy helps people with chronic tennis elbow. Thirty adults with long-lasting elbow pain were split into two groups: one got standard therapy alone, the other added scapular exercises. Researchers measured pain, grip strength, and daily function to see if the extra exercises made a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

scapular strengthening exercises

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost addition to physical therapy for better pain relief and function in chronic tennis elbow.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 30 participants. Results may not apply to everyone, and the added benefit of scapular exercises over standard care alone may be modest.
